| Collectors over the years have puzzled why more Eschle boxes don't come to market. Griesbaum always produced more, but enough Eschle were made that more should be around... Eschle didn't produce bird boxes until the early 50's and the later ones were not of the highest quality. This early and rare 1955 (marked on bellows) Eschle (stamped on movement) singing bird box automaton is in excellent working condition. This all brass Eschle movement has been restored to original condition. It is a wonderful piece to compare side by side with the Griesbaum boxes of the era. One can see that Eschle was every bit as high quality at this point and clever in their movement. The song reminds of the Griesbaum song, but varies uniquely. The box is in structurally sound condition but some of the black enamel has chipped off -- though the hand-painted birds and flowers remain.
